The line and mark allocation for questions are also valuable tools for determining how much detail is required for each response. Occasionally, you will run out of space to finish your answer. If this is the case, ensure you direct assessors to the continuation of your answer (most often the back pages of the script booklet). Also ensure you label the continuation clearly (with the section, question and part number), so the assessor knows where to continue reading.
When discussing the function of nutrients, remember that the function should relate to health, as opposed to individual human development that was the focus of nutrition in Unit 1 and 2. IN order to ensure you are
relating to health, linking to an increased or decreased risk of a specific disease is a good way to go. For example, instead of saying ‘Calcium is required for building bone density’, add ‘and therefore decreases the risk of
osteoporosis’ to ensure a link to health has been made.
Changes to the Study Design
Don’t forget about some significant changes to content that have occurred since the Study Design was written with regards to the Unit 3 and 4 HHD course (this information may not be in your text book as the books were written
before these changes took place):
Human Development Index
The indicators that are used to calculate the Human Development Index are now:
· Life expectancy
· Mean years of schooling (for a 25 year old)
· Expected years of schooling (for someone about to enter the education system)
· Gross National Income (per person)
VicHealth
There is no need to know the values of VicHealth but the mission is now a part of the Study Design:
The mission of VicHealth is to build the capabilities of organisations, communities and individuals in ways
that:
• change social, economic, cultural and physical environments to improve health for all Victorians
• strengthen the understanding and the skills of individuals in ways that support their efforts to achieve and maintain health
Aid Aid provided by non-government organisations is now one of the types of aid you should be familiar with.
